About

January 15th, 2009

While I have many interests, I am probably best known for my work in the media. I have worked in television for more than 25 years, part of it as a newscaster, part of it as a sportscaster – but the majority of it as a weathercaster. All of these functions are, to some extent, planned or scripted. In this space, I hope to be able to write about topics that do not lend themselves to my current role in television news.

Off the air, I enjoy soccer – watching, playing, and even refereeing it. I am a big fan of English soccer, most likely because I studied abroad in England and Ireland for a term as an undergraduate. During that time I was fortunate to meet team and league officials and a few players involved in the professional game. I officiated soccer matches on the side to earn myself a little spending money. I also visited the House of Commons on a few occasions after getting to know a couple of Members of Parliament. They kindly showed me around to places in Westminster that tourists never get to see.

That was the first of what turned out to be many trips to England and the continent. I love to travel throughout Europe, and have done so on more than two dozen occasions. I speak just enough of the languages of western Europe to get around, and I have many friends over there who can help me figure out the rest.

For me the world has become a much smaller place, and I feel my travels have provided me a better grasp of the way things work internationally than the average person. Above all, I have developed a great respect for how people live in other countries, and a deeper appreciation for the country we live in here.
